The EPP delegates voted unanimously against individual taxation at their meeting in Langenthal, Bern, the party announced. "Individual taxation penalizes precisely those families in which one spouse is particularly involved in childcare or caring for relatives," party president Lilian Studer was quoted as saying in the communiqué.
With 77 votes to 2 and three abstentions, the EPP delegates rejected the popular initiative "200 francs is enough! (SRG initiative)". "Cutting the SRG in half would deprive the population of reliable information and thus jeopardize the foundation of our democracy," said Marc Jost, member of the Bernese EPP National Council, explaining his vote against the popular initiative.
The people and cantons will also decide on other proposals on 8 March The EPP is advocating a Yes to the initiative "For a fair energy and climate policy: investing for prosperity, jobs and the environment (climate fund initiative)".
In contrast, it rejects the initiative "Yes to an independent, free Swiss currency with coins or banknotes (cash is freedom)". Instead, the party supports the direct counter-proposal to the petition for a referendum.
