He criticized the CHP for punishing media and companies that did not support them through boycotts, which he said was "nothing but pure fascism".
Turkey has been in a serious domestic political crisis since Imamoglu's arrest on March 19. Imamoglu has been accused of terrorism and corruption. As a result, hundreds of thousands took to the streets in anti-government protests and hundreds were arrested. The demonstrators accuse the government of using the judiciary to eliminate Erdogan's biggest political rival.
Erdogan: Opposition sheds "crocodile tears"
Erdogan accused the opposition party of fighting its battles "on the shoulders of the youth" and presenting itself as a victim. It had incited the young people to attack the police and then "shed crocodile tears".
During the protests, which were largely supported by students, there were frequent clashes between police and demonstrators, in which the police sometimes intervened harshly - including with water cannons and tear gas. The Ministry of the Interior spoke of numerous injured police officers, but no figures were published on the number of injured demonstrators.
