The security authorities in Latvia have arrested a citizen of the Baltic EU and NATO country on suspicion of spying for Russia.

The person is being investigated for collecting information about the Latvian defense sector for the Russian military intelligence service GRU, the security police in Riga announced. This included information on private aviation infrastructure and the presence of NATO troops in Latvia. The authorities did not provide further details on the gender or identity of the person currently in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
