EU Commission condemns Israeli attacks "in the strongest terms"

"As the European Union, we strongly condemn Israel's recent attacks on Lebanon," said a Commission spokesperson in Brussels, referring to numerous civilian casualties and the destruction of civilian infrastructure. "Such actions represent a very serious escalation and an unacceptable threat to civilian lives and regional stability."

International law and humanitarian law must be respected. The EU remains committed to de-escalation and a permanent cessation of hostilities, supports the disarmament of Hezbollah and stands in solidarity with the Lebanese people.

The Israeli military had massively bombed the capital of Lebanon, Beirut, on Wednesday. According to the Lebanese health minister, more than 200 people were killed and more than 1,000 injured.
