The EU Commission hopes to vote on the next package of sanctions against Russia in September. "Hopefully we can adopt it next month," said a spokesperson for the EU Commission. She did not give any details on the possible content of the package.

The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, recently announced after a video conference of EU foreign ministers that there would be a 19th package. With the punitive measures, the EU wants to make it more difficult for Russia to continue its war of aggression against Ukraine.
In the EU, sanctions are decided unanimously by the member states. In the past, there have been internal debates, for example because Hungary and Slovakia blocked sanctions against Moscow. It remains to be seen whether the timetable can be adhered to.
