Europe EU countries want 90 percent fewer emissions by 2040

To protect the climate, the EU states want to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 90 percent by 2040 compared to 1990 levels. However, according to a compromise reached by the environment ministers, five percentage points of this reduction can be bought through deals with non-European countries, as announced by the Danish EU Council Presidency.
