The Federal Council is examining proposals for Switzerland's participation in the EU solidarity mechanism in the area of asylum. At the same time, it adopted the dispatch on the domestic implementation of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum for the attention of Parliament on Friday.

The pact aims to make the European migration and asylum system more efficient, more crisis-resistant and more solidary, as the Federal Council announced on Friday. As an associated Schengen/Dublin state, Switzerland is obliged to participate in some areas.

The reform provides for a binding solidarity mechanism for EU member states to distribute asylum seekers within the EU. Switzerland can participate on a voluntary basis. According to the communiqué, the administration has been tasked with drawing up proposals on how Switzerland could actually participate in this mechanism.
