Nursing experts with a Master's degree are to be able to bill more services to the compulsory health insurance in future. Among other things, this is intended to counter the shortage of GPs.

The Federal Council commissioned a corresponding amendment to the law on Wednesday. The draft should be available by the first semester of 2028 at the latest.
Specifically, nursing experts - Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) - are to take on tasks in primary care that will relieve the pressure on nursing teams and doctors. This requires an amendment to the Health Insurance Act.
At the same time, the revision of the Health Professions Act, which redefines the profession of nursing expert in Advanced Practice Nursing, is pending in parliament. Due to the high requirements, a master's degree in "advanced practice nursing" should be a prerequisite for practicing as a nursing expert.
