The offer is being continuously expanded in order to create added value for the economy, society and science, the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology MeteoSwiss announced on Thursday. For example, entire sectors of the economy, emergency services, start-ups in the field of data science and interested members of the public all benefit.

MeteoSwiss has data series at its disposal, some of which date back to 1864 and therefore allow conclusions to be drawn about long-term climate developments. The federal office provides over one billion measurement, analysis and forecast values per day.

Free availability of data

Over the course of the year, the data will be made available on publicly accessible data platforms. The MeteoSwiss Open Government Data website will serve as the central entry point.

The whole thing is made possible by the Federal Act on the Use of Electronic Means for the Performance of Official Duties. The aim is to promote transparency, participation and innovation in all areas of society through open and freely usable administrative data, wrote MeteoSwiss.
