A Ukrainian drone attack on an oil refinery has caused a fire in the Republic of Bashkortostan, according to Russian reports. Several drones were fended off as they approached the plant in the large city of Ufa, wrote republic head Radi Khabirov on Telegram. Debris from a drone had crashed in the industrial park and there was a fire on the site of a factory, he explained. Another drone had hit a residential building. According to him, there were no fatalities or injuries. Bashkortostan is around 1,400 kilometers away from Ukraine.
In the south-eastern Ukrainian region of Dnipropetrovsk, one person was killed in Russian drone and artillery attacks in the town of Synelnykov, according to Governor Olexander Hansha. A twelve-year-old and a 42-year-old woman were injured. Russia attacked the neighboring country with 172 combat drones during the night, according to the Ukrainian air force. Of these, 147 were repelled and 22 were hit.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a large-scale Russian invasion with Western help for more than four years. As part of its defensive campaign, it is also attacking targets in the Russian hinterland. Kiev is deliberately targeting the oil industry in order to damage Moscow's war chest and make it more difficult to supply the army with fuel.
