"The situation is completely under control," the civil defense assured. Meanwhile, the Ukrinform agency reported that the fire posed no radioactive danger.
On April 26, 1986, a test at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the former Soviet republic of Ukraine went out of control, resulting in the worst-case scenario. Attenuated radioactive clouds spread as far as northern and western Europe.
Russia has been waging a destructive war of aggression against Ukraine for more than four years.
