A five-year-old boy who was taken into custody with his father by federal ICE agents has been released. The boy is back home in the state of Minnesota, said Democrat Joaquin Castro, a member of the House of Representatives, on the X platform. He had picked them both up in Texas, where they had been detained. A judge had ordered their release.

The case of the boy, who was picked up in a raid in Minneapolis almost two weeks ago, led to great outrage. Critics saw further evidence of how rigorously ICE officials are proceeding in their operations, which are part of the migration policy of Donald Trump's administration. According to the Department of Homeland Security, the operation was aimed at the father, who is said to be from Ecuador and is in the USA illegally. A lawyer had stated that the family had applied for asylum at a border crossing in December 2024.
