Heavy rainfall in Israel and the Palestinian territories has also caused severe flooding in the largely destroyed Gaza Strip. Palestinian media reported that many people living in temporary tent camps in the coastal strip were particularly affected by the harsh weather conditions.

Videos and pictures showed Palestinians moving between flooded tents and trying to remove the water. A Hamas spokesperson called on the international community to take serious steps to support the approximately two million people in the devastated area. Winter had begun and this was making the suffering of the many displaced people unbearably worse.
A ceasefire was agreed in the war between Israel and the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas on 10 October. Nevertheless, violent incidents continue to occur, with both sides accusing each other of violations. It is still completely unclear when reconstruction of the largely destroyed area can begin.
The war was triggered by the unprecedented massacre by Hamas and other extremist organizations in Israel, in which around 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 others deported to the Gaza Strip on 7 October 2023. According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, around 70,000 Palestinians were killed in the Gaza Strip in two devastating years of war, including many women and children. However, estimates put the death toll at significantly higher.
