France is organizing an international aid conference for Lebanon, which has been shaken by the Middle East conflict. The French Foreign Ministry announced that the meeting on October 24 in Paris will focus on support for the suffering population and the establishment of a functioning state. Lebanon's partner states, the United Nations, the European Union and international, regional and civil society organizations are to take part in the conference at ministerial level.

In view of the political and humanitarian crisis in Lebanon, the aim of the conference is to mobilize emergency aid for the Lebanese population and to strengthen Lebanese institutions. In particular, it is about the armed forces, which guarantee the internal stability of the country, it was said in Paris. The election of a president in Lebanon is a first step towards getting the country's structures back on track.

The announcement of the conference follows a visit by the new French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot to Beirut at the end of September. France has close ties to Lebanon as a former mandate power. According to the United Nations, the humanitarian situation in Lebanon has worsened dramatically as a result of Israel's recent attacks.
