State financial support for the new ballroom planned by US President Donald Trump at the White House has met with resistance in the Senate. Elizabeth MacDonough, the Senate official responsible for procedural rules, said that a corresponding draft of a budget bill was not in line with the rules for reasons of competence. It would have to be revised. The Republicans announced their intention to do this.

The US President had the historic East Wing of the White House demolished for the ballroom, which Trump said would open in September 2028. Preservationists are up in arms about the project. Trump had initially said that the construction costs of up to 400 million dollars would be financed from private donations. The budget bill should now provide additional funds from taxpayers' money.
