The Islamist Hamas has handed over the bodies of two more people - presumed dead hostages. The Israeli army announced that the two coffins had been handed over to employees of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). They were on their way to be handed over to the military. The Forensic Institute in Tel Aviv will then establish the identity of those killed.

According to the ceasefire agreement, Hamas must hand over a total of 28 bodies. Should Israel confirm the identity of the bodies now handed over, 16 dead hostages would still remain in the Gaza Strip. Hamas claims that it is difficult for them to find the bodies because they are buried under the rubble of bombed buildings and tunnels.
The Islamists had already released the last 20 living hostages last Monday. The first phase of the ceasefire initiated by US President Donald Trump in the war between Israel and Hamas provides for the release and handover of all living and dead hostages.
