Following a renewed escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip, a delegation from the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas has come to Cairo for talks. After the meeting, the terrorist organization announced that Hamas had emphasized its willingness to implement the first phase of US President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan. However, there was also criticism of Israel. The delegation was headed by Chalil al-Haja, the highest-ranking Hamas official abroad.

Talks were planned with the mediators - Qatar and the USA as well as Egypt - in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. They were to discuss the latest escalation despite the ceasefire that came into force on October 10 and the transition to the second phase of the Gaza peace plan, the Saudi TV station Al-Hadath reported. The UN Security Council had also recently voted in favor of a resolution introduced by the USA to safeguard the plan.
According to the Hamas delegation, it emphasized the importance of ending "persistent violations" by Israel that threaten to undermine the agreement through a clear mechanism under the supervision of the mediators. This includes informing the mediators of all incidents so that they can take the necessary measures and prevent actions that lead to escalation.
Concerns about the continuation of the ceasefire
Repeated violent incidents in the Gaza Strip had raised concerns about the continuation of the fragile ceasefire. According to the Hamas-controlled health authority in Gaza, at least 22 people were killed in Israeli attacks on Saturday alone. Israel's army spoke of reactions to Palestinian violations of the ceasefire and attacks on its troops, who still control more than half of the coastal strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during the weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem that Israel would do everything in its power to prevent a resurgence of Hamas and the Lebanese Hezbollah militia.
