The Secretary General of the German Liberals, Bijan Djir-Sarai, is resigning following the publication of an FDP strategy paper on leaving the "traffic light" coalition. The 48-year-old FDP politician made the announcement in Berlin on Friday.

The FDP leadership had gone through a possible exit from the "traffic light" coalition in detail in a strategy paper. The party itself published the document on Thursday. The political opponents are outraged by the style and content.

The Social Democrats, Greens and Liberals had joined forces after the 2021 federal elections to form an alliance that had not previously existed in this form at federal level. The name "Ampel" comes from the party colors red (SPD), yellow (FDP) and green.
