Great Britain wants to announce new sanctions against Moscow on the third anniversary of the war in Ukraine. On Monday, it will announce the largest package of sanctions against Vladimir Putin's Russia since the early days of the war, explained British Foreign Secretary David Lammy. The package will weaken the Russian military machine and reduce the revenues used to fuel the destruction of Ukraine. Lammy left open in advance what the sanctions will look like in concrete terms and what their scope will be this time.

Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February 2022 and has been waging a war of aggression against the neighboring country ever since. Since then, the West has been supporting Ukraine with military and humanitarian aid packages while at the same time trying to weaken Russia with targeted sanctions.
The foreign ministers of the EU member states also want to formally decide on a new package of sanctions against the Kremlin at a meeting in Brussels on Monday. Among other things, it contains new trade restrictions as well as measures against Russian media and the so-called Russian shadow fleet. This was agreed in advance by the permanent representatives of the EU member states in Brussels.
