Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has confirmed that her Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen will meet with his US counterpart Marco Rubio next week. Frederiksen did not name a place or exact time for the meeting on the conflict over Greenland during a party conference at midday. "We are at a crossroads," said the head of government, according to the news agency Ritzau.
In recent days, US President Donald Trump and his government have repeatedly reaffirmed their intention to take over Greenland. The government in Washington has not ruled out a military operation for this purpose, with Trump justifying this with security interests and a suspected threat from China and Russia in the region.
Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark and therefore also part of NATO. If you turn your back on Nato cooperation by threatening an ally, "then everything stops", said Frederiksen. However, she also emphasized that the USA was the most important ally.
