According to the Greens, the solar initiative will go ahead. The party has already collected 125,000 signatures, which are now being submitted to the municipalities for consideration.

In October alone, 30,000 signatures were collected, as the party informed the Keystone-SDA news agency on Thursday. This was made possible by the strong mobilization of the grassroots.
At the end of August, the initiative was still several tens of thousands of signatures short, according to the CH Media newspapers. The 18-month collection period for the required 100,000 signatures runs until December 11.
It would be the first popular initiative in ten years that the Greens have brought about on their own. "An important moment for our party," said President Lisa Mazzone. The initiative is also a response to the "Anytime electricity for everyone (stop the blackout)" initiative from the FDP and SVP, which envisages a comeback for nuclear power plants.
The initiative "For a secure supply of renewable energies (solar initiative)" demands that a solar installation be included in all new builds and conversions. Exceptions should apply if protective interests prevail or installation would be disproportionate for other reasons. The text also allows the federal government to provide financial support measures.
The Greens want to establish solar power as the largest pillar of Switzerland's energy supply alongside hydropower. "The potential for energy generation is roughly as large as the annual electricity consumption of the entire Swiss population," says Mazzone.
