Hamas is threatening to kill hostages if the Israeli army resumes fighting in the Gaza Strip. "Any escalation of aggression" against the Palestinian people will lead to the killing of a number of those kidnapped, Hamas spokesman Abu Obeida said in a video address. He blamed Israel for the deaths of the hostages and for failing to comply with the Gaza deal.

According to Israeli information, Islamists in the Gaza Strip are still holding 24 hostages and 35 bodies of abductees in the Gaza Strip. According to Israeli information, among those still alive is a young soldier who holds both Israeli and German citizenship. A Thai national and the bodies of several other foreigners are also being held.
The hostages who have been released so far have reported starvation and abuse at the hands of Hamas and other Islamists. The families of the kidnapped fear that time will soon run out for the hostages who are still alive.
The first phase of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Islamist Hamas expired last weekend. So far, the parties to the conflict have been unable to agree on an extension of the agreement. Israel then threatened that without the release of further hostages, the war in the Gaza Strip would start all over again.
