Kamala Harris has chosen the governor of the state of Minnesota, Tim Walz, as her running mate for the US presidential election in November. The Democrat made the announcement via the X platform and on Instagram. A number of US media outlets had previously reported on the decision, citing unnamed sources.

"What impresses me about Tim is his deep-seated conviction to fight for middle class families," Harris said on Instagram. She went into more detail about Walz's family background and praised his political successes. "We will be a great team," she continued. "We will win this election." At X, Harris added, "Let's get to work now." She combined the announcement with an appeal for donations from her supporters.
With Walz, Harris is apparently looking to strengthen Democrats in the Midwest. The 60-year-old Walz has been governor of the state of Minnesota since 2019 and previously served as a member of the House of Representatives for many years. Before his political career, he was a teacher. The father of two does not have a strong national profile, but is known for his down-to-earth and direct way of conveying political messages.
