In the dispute between the US government and the elite Harvard University, the university is using legal means to defend itself against the threatened entry ban for foreign students. The university is expanding a lawsuit it has already filed against the steps announced by President Donald Trump: it is now also taking action against the fact that almost all foreign nationals who want to study at Harvard are to be denied entry.

Trump announced on Wednesday (local time) that the planned entry restriction would initially apply for six months. The university is now hoping that the federal court dealing with its lawsuit will also stop this government plan.
Harvard rejected Trump's argument that the entry of foreign nationals who want to study at the university would be "detrimental to the interests of the United States". According to Trump's announcement, these same people would still be allowed to enter the country as long as they did not want to study at Harvard. Trump's announcement is therefore merely aimed at enforcing his known plan, which is already being legally challenged, according to the revised statement of claim.
The university has been defending itself for almost two weeks against the US government's plans to exclude foreign students. A US federal judge recently halted this plan after Harvard filed a lawsuit in her court. However, her decision is not yet a final ruling.
