The head of Helvetia says in an interview that homeowners should expect insurance premiums to rise as insurers give greater weighting to natural hazards.
Risk zones could also only be protected to a limited extent in the future.
The CEO also spoke about the merger of Helvetia and Baloise, although it is unclear how many jobs will be affected.
Homeowners must be prepared for higher insurance premiums. "Blatten was a turning point and has shaken up the industry," said Helvetia CEO Fabian Rupprecht in a newspaper interview.
Insurers would weigh risks more heavily - with the result that houses in high-risk zones would no longer receive insurance cover. At the same time, policies are becoming more expensive: "In the long term, premiums will have to rise - there is no other way," said Rupprecht in an interview with the NZZ am Sonntag.
Merger of Helvetia and Baloise this year
Helvetia will merge with its competitor Baloise before the end of this year. Fabian Rupprecht will then become CEO of the merged Helvetia Baloise. "We will further increase efficiency," he said. However, it is still unclear how many jobs will be lost as a result of the merger.
It is also unclear what plans Helvetia Baloise will pursue, for example with Baloise Bank or in foreign business. "We have not yet defined our new strategy," said Rupprecht. What is clear is that he wants to use the new Group's high capital strength primarily for internal growth and that takeovers are not the focus.
