The Hinwil District Court acquitted former SVP National Councillor Claudio Zanetti on Thursday. The 58-year-old was accused of sharing a post by an Israeli army spokesman on Platform X.

Of course, the imagery was exaggerated, Zanetti said in court. However, the post was clearly directed against the terrorist organization Hamas, not against the Palestinian population.

The picture, which Zanetti re-posted in January 2024, shows a fist with an Israel logo smashing a swastika in Palestinian colors. Above it was written "Never again is now, come what may." The background is Hamas' attack on Israel in October 2023.

The public prosecutor's office requested a conditional fine of 30 daily rates of 80 francs and a fine of 600 francs for discrimination and incitement to hatred.
