Foreign doctors who want to work in a Swiss hospital currently have to wait months for their diplomas to be recognized. The reasons for this are more applications and unforeseen shortfalls at the responsible office.
The situation is unacceptable, wrote the hospital association H+ in a press release on Thursday. If hospitals are unable to replace retired specialists in time, this would jeopardize the provision of safe care.
An unforeseeable increase in the number of applications and unforeseeable staff shortages had led to the backlog, the Federal Office of Public Health wrote on request. Due to cost-cutting measures, it was not possible to hire additional staff at short notice. They are working at full speed to solve the problem.
Staff resources are being increased, processes are being simplified and digitalization is being driven forward as far as financially possible. "The backlog should be made up by the end of the year and processing times should be permanently reduced to under three months again."
