According to Unicef, hunger, war and disease have determined the lives of millions of children in the past year. However, the aid organization also emphasizes in a review that progress is possible even under the most difficult conditions.

In war zones such as Ukraine and Sudan, many children's lives are in danger every day, the United Nations Children's Fund stated in its 2025 annual report.

According to Unicef, over 35,000 cases of sexualized violence against children were registered in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the first nine months of this year. For the first time in 2025, famine was confirmed in two countries within one year. "In both cases, it was man-made, triggered by war and conflict: in regions of Sudan and the Gaza Strip," Unicef reported.

In mid-2025, Unicef had already established that never before had so many children grown up in crisis areas as at present. Almost every fifth child is affected.
