Following the suspension of Iran's cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdogs, inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) left the country on Friday. This was announced by the IAEA in Vienna on Platform X.

The team of inspectors had remained in the country during the recent war and had now safely made their way to Vienna, it said.

According to information from diplomatic circles, only a few IAEA experts had been in the Islamic Republic recently. An IAEA spokesperson did not say how many there were or whether all the inspectors had left.

IAEA urges resumption of inspection missions

On Wednesday, Iran formally suspended cooperation with the IAEA. The inspectors have no longer had access to the nuclear facilities since they were bombed and damaged during the war with Israel and the USA.

It is extremely important that the IAEA talks with Iran about resuming its indispensable inspection missions in Iran as soon as possible, the IAEA quoted its head Rafael Grossi as saying on Platform X.

Israel had attacked Iran on June 13 and bombed targets across the country. The government cited the threat posed by Iran's controversial nuclear program as justification. Israel fears that the Islamic Republic could build a nuclear bomb. Iran denies this and responded with missile and drone attacks. The USA then joined the war and bombed the most important nuclear facilities in Iran. The extent of the damage is still unclear. A ceasefire is now in place.
