The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is cutting around 240 jobs at its headquarters in Geneva. In July, the organization announced that it would have to cut its 2026 budget by 17 percent.

This corresponds to a reduction of 300 million francs to 1.8 billion francs. A source familiar with the dossier told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Friday afternoon that between 200 and 300 people would be affected by the job cuts, with 95 of them expected to leave voluntarily.
In the evening, the online edition of the "Tribune de Genève" newspaper reported that 240 jobs would disappear at the ICRC in Geneva. Several press officers confirmed these figures to the Keystone-SDA news agency.
The budget still has to be approved by the ICRC's supreme body, the Assembly, in November. The extent of the job cuts could therefore still change. The first redundancies were announced this week.
