Dozens of indigenous activists have stormed the secured tent city of the UN Climate Change Conference in Brazil.

Videos from South American media showed how they violently broke down a door on Tuesday evening (local time) and engaged in a scuffle with security forces.

Thousands of indigenous activists are also represented at the World Climate Conference in the city of Belém. They are campaigning against the destruction of their ancestral homeland, for example through the deforestation of the rainforest.

According to BBC reporters, they observed UN security personnel running behind a line of Brazilian soldiers and shouting at delegates to leave the premises. Instagram videos from an activist showed a huge crowd of indigenous people waving flags and protesting in the corridors of the conference center.
