Switzerland must be climate-neutral by 2050. However, according to the SP and the Greens, this goal cannot be achieved with the current climate policy and decarbonization measures. Switzerland therefore needs a climate fund.

Supporters of the climate fund initiative launched the Yes campaign for March 8 in Bern on Tuesday. The initiative calls for a state climate fund. A Yes vote would require the federal government to pay in 0.5 to 1 percent of Switzerland's economic output each year until 2050.

The committee argues that the negative consequences of global warming are also costly. Global warming is already causing almost one billion francs in damage per year. According to the Federal Council, these costs could rise to up to CHF 34 billion per year by 2060.

The climate fund would enable urgent investments in renewable energies, building renovations and modern mobility. Switzerland could also become less dependent on imported fossil fuels and create environmentally friendly jobs.
