Initial reports had stated that 17 people had been killed. Initially, no one claimed responsibility for the attack. Since the Islamist Taliban regained power in August 2021, the number of attacks in Afghanistan has fallen significantly. However, the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia is still active in parts of the country. It is at enmity with the Taliban.
