Iran has announced the deaths of three more nuclear scientists. Ali Bakai Karimi, Mansur Asgari and Said Borji, three Iranian nuclear scientists, were killed in the Israeli attacks, the Tasnim news agency reported. This brings the number of known fatalities among the scientists to at least nine.

International humanitarian law, in particular the Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols, explicitly protects civilians. Scientists are generally considered civilians. According to the Geneva Conventions, they may only be targeted if they are participating directly and for a limited period in specific hostilities. Targeted killing outside of these conditions may constitute a violation of the laws of war
