At the same time, the General Staff accused Israel of being behind the drone attacks and wanting to disrupt relations between Islamic countries.

Azerbaijan had previously blamed Iran for drone attacks in the autonomous exclave of Nakhichevan and threatened to retaliate. The Ministry of Defense was said to be preparing the necessary retaliatory measures.

According to the Foreign Ministry in Baku, one drone struck the airport's check-in hall, while another was downed near a school building. Two people were injured and the airport building was damaged.

The exclave of Nakhichevan is cut off from the heartland of Azerbaijan in the South Caucasus - the region is surrounded by Armenia, Iran and Turkey.
