"We are still willing to talk, but the experience of past negotiations with the USA forces us to exercise extreme caution," said Massud Peseshkian at a meeting with Pakistan's army chief Asim Munir. Pakistan is mediating in the conflict with the USA.
Iran has a "deep mistrust" of the USA due to repeated breaches of treaties and military attacks during ongoing negotiations, Peseshkian said according to the presidential office's web portal.
He also warned of the global consequences of a renewed military escalation. "The war has never benefited anyone, and the USA will not emerge victorious in this conflict either," said Peseshkian. On the contrary, countries in and outside the region would suffer heavy losses as a result of this conflict. Iran would stick to its course and continue to insist on its legitimate rights, the President explained. He did not provide any information on the current state of negotiations.
