Iran's leadership has been blocking the internet for almost two days due to the nationwide mass protests. The organization Netblocks, which specializes in network blocking, reported on Twitter this morning: "It's now 8:00am (local time) in #Iran, where the sun is rising after another night of protests met with repression. Measurements show that the nationwide internet lockdown has been in place for 36 hours, severely limiting Iranians' ability to find out about the safety of their friends and loved ones."

One user wrote that he had had no contact with his family in Iran for 48 hours. Due to the internet block, he could not find out whether they were well or not. One user commented: "Another night of protests, another night of oppression - and Iranians are still cut off from their loved ones due to the internet blockade."
Observers: the leadership is pursuing two main goals with the blockade
The Iranian security apparatus has completely shut down the internet for the population. Exceptions apply, for example, to security forces or selected state media. According to reports, people are bypassing the blackout via Starlink satellite internet - provided they were able to illegally import the necessary terminals.
According to observers, the leadership is pursuing two main goals with the blockade. Firstly, to make it more difficult for demonstrators to organize protests. The second is to suppress the publication of reports, photos and videos about the unrest and reprisals.
