According to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, his country intends to continue defending itself until the USA agrees. "We are prepared to defend ourselves for as long as it takes," said the Iranian chief diplomat on the US TV program "Face the Nation" on CBS News. They will continue until US President Donald Trump recognizes that it is an "illegal" war with no prospect of victory.

When asked by the presenter whether Iran had asked for a ceasefire, he replied: "No, we have never asked for a ceasefire and we have never asked for negotiations." The US broadcaster NBC News reported at the weekend, citing a telephone interview with Trump, that he had said Iran wanted to conclude an agreement. However, he did not want to do so because the conditions were not yet good enough.
