"Special chambers with the participation of experienced judges have been set up to deal with the cases of the elements of the unrest quickly, accurately and comprehensively," said head of the judiciary Gholam-Hussein Mohseni-Edschehi, according to the justice portal Misan.
The head of the judiciary went on to explain that his authorities had been instructed to be present on site if necessary. Judicial officials are to inform themselves about the demonstrations and observe the protests at close range.
The judiciary had already ordered similar summary proceedings after the war against Israel a good six months ago in order to convict suspected collaborators with the arch-enemy more quickly. This was also a common procedure during the large waves of protests in recent years.
The current protests, initially triggered by the massive economic crisis, are the most serious in three years. In the fall of 2022, crowds of people took to the streets under the slogan "Women, Life, Freedom". The judiciary subsequently executed at least 12 people in connection with the uprisings.
