Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has called on the Islamic world to stand together with his country against the US and Israeli combat missions in the region. In a televised message on the occasion of the Persian New Year, Khamenei spoke of US crimes in Yemen and shared responsibility for Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip. The Islamic world should stand together with Iran "against these catastrophic and inhumane actions".

The US military has been massively attacking Huthi militia positions in Yemen since Saturday on the orders of President Donald Trump. According to Defense Minister Pete Hegseth, the US only wants to stop the attacks when the militia stops its attacks on shipping. The Houthis announced a few days ago that they would resume attacks on ships in the Red Sea. According to their own statements, they want to achieve an end to the blockade of the Gaza Strip by Israel.
Together with the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, the Houthi militia is part of Iran's so-called "resistance front" against its arch-enemy Israel.
Trump's proposal for new nuclear negotiations with Iran - according to some reports linked to an ultimatum of two months - has so far been rejected by Khamenei. According to observers, his New Year's message also signaled a renewed rejection of Trump.
