Politics Iran's religious leader threatens Israel and the USA again

Following the latest military confrontations, Iran's religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has threatened his arch-enemies Israel and the USA with a decisive response. "The enemies, whether the Zionist regime or America, will certainly receive a devastating response to what they are doing to Iran and the resistance front," Khamenei (85) said at an event in Tehran. Whether this also meant a military response to the Israeli retaliatory attack a week ago initially remained open.

The danger of a major, open war between Iran and Israel had recently increased. Last Saturday, the Jewish state retaliated with an airstrike for an Iranian missile attack at the beginning of October. Afterwards, there were contradictory statements and reports as to whether Iran's military would respond.

The so-called resistance front includes militias allied with Iran, including Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
