Iran's Revolutionary Guards have announced revenge for the death of head of state and religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. "The murderers of the nation's imam will not escape harsh, decisive and deterrent punishment," reads a statement issued by Iran's elite armed forces and distributed by the Lebanese Hezbollah militia.

The Revolutionary Guards, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic and the Basij militia would "resolutely confront internal and external conspiracies" and punish the aggressors "with a deterrent and exemplary response", the statement continued. All parts of society are called upon to participate in national defense and "demonstrate solidarity and national unity" to the world.

US President Donald Trump had already announced Khamenei's death before Iran's state media. "Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, is dead," the Republican wrote on his Truth Social platform. This is the "greatest opportunity for the Iranian people to take back their country", Trump emphasized. He announced that the bombings in Iran would continue until peace returns to the region and the entire world. The armed forces of Israel, Iran's arch-enemy, are also involved in the attacks.
