According to government figures, Iraq has taken in more than 1,000 fugitive soldiers from the Syrian army in its own country. The state news agency INA reported, citing an unnamed security source, that the soldiers had applied for entry via the Al-Kaim border crossing.

The soldiers had been admitted. They had been offered the necessary food.
Meanwhile, the Qatari news channel Al-Jazeera quoted an Iraqi government spokesman as saying that 2,000 soldiers from the Syrian army had already entered Iraq with full equipment.
