Foreign ministers from several Islamic states see US President Donald Trump's plan to end the Gaza war as a "real opportunity" to achieve a sustainable ceasefire. In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar welcomed the reaction of the Palestinian Hamas to Trump's plan.

They also welcomed Trump's call on Israel to stop bombing the Gaza Strip. Such developments represented a real opportunity "to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire and improve the critical humanitarian situation of the people of Gaza", the statement said.
Hamas had previously agreed to parts of Trump's plan, but had not explicitly accepted the demanded laying down of arms. Trump then demanded that Israel immediately stop bombing the Gaza Strip to enable the release of the hostages.
Talks between Israel and Hamas are to take place in Egypt on Monday - presumably via mediators - to discuss details of a hostage-prisoner exchange. Egypt, Qatar and the USA are mediating in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
