The Israeli army says it has killed at least 20 armed Palestinian fighters in the north of the Gaza Strip.

In the area of Jabalia, where the troops had launched a new ground offensive on Sunday, weapons caches had also been dug up. The air force had supported the ground troops. Islamist Hamas and other extremists from the Gaza Strip killed around 1,200 people and abducted around 250 hostages in southern Israel on October 7 last year. Shortly afterwards, Israel launched a ground offensive to destroy Hamas. According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, around 42,000 Palestinians have died so far. The figure does not distinguish between fighters and civilians and cannot be verified at present.
