For the first time since a ceasefire began three weeks ago, the Israeli air force has again attacked a suburb of the Lebanese capital Beirut. The target was a commander of the Radwan unit of the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, according to a statement by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz. The intention was to "eliminate" him.

Residents in Beirut reported loud explosions. According to eyewitnesses, panic broke out on the streets in the suburbs and beyond. Many cars waited at the side of the road instead of continuing on their way. Residents from the southern suburbs fled. "When we heard the explosions, we ran down the stairs and fled," one resident told the German Press Agency.
"The Radwan fighters under his leadership were responsible for shelling Israeli villages and attacking Israeli soldiers," the statement continued. "No terrorist enjoys immunity - the long hand of Israel will reach every enemy and murderer." The aim is to ensure the safety of the inhabitants of northern Israel.
Although a ceasefire is officially in place between Hezbollah and Israel, mutual attacks continue to take place on a daily basis. Since the beginning of March, the conflict has once again intensified significantly as part of the regional escalation after rockets were fired from Lebanon. Israel responded with airstrikes and ground operations in southern Lebanon, accompanied by heavy fighting in the border area.
