Commemorations have begun in Israel to mark the first anniversary of the Hamas massacre in the border area with the Gaza Strip. According to local media reports, Israeli President Izchak Herzog observed a minute's silence in the early morning in a kibbutz at the site of the Nova music festival at the time when terrorists from Hamas and other extremist groups carried out the massacre there on October 7, 2023.

According to the Israeli army, Hamas attempted to attack Israel with rockets from the sealed-off Gaza Strip at the very start of the commemoration.

However, Israeli warplanes thwarted the attack by bombing Hamas launch sites and underground tunnels throughout the Gaza Strip shortly beforehand, the army added. Of the four projectiles fired from the southern Gaza Strip, three were intercepted. One projectile fell into open terrain.

Earlier in the night, Israeli artillery and the air force had attacked targets in the central Gaza Strip that posed a threat to Israeli troops operating in the area, the Israeli army added.
