According to Israel's army, it has ended attacks on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military announced in the evening that the targets included weapons depots belonging to Hezbollah's elite Radwan unit. Israel once again accused the Iranian-backed militia of rearmament and thus of violating the current ceasefire agreement.

"The weapons depots were set up in the middle of areas where civilians live," an army statement continued. Prior to the attacks, the Israeli military had called on residents to leave certain buildings and their surroundings in five locations in the south of the country.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun spoke of a "blatant crime" by Israel, according to the state news agency NNA. Among other things, he criticized the fact that people had been driven from their homes.

Panic among residents

A dpa journalist observed how the Israeli army's warnings caused panic among residents in the affected villages. Many fear a new escalation of the conflict between Israel and the Shiite militia.

Tensions had recently intensified again. Israel and its ally, the USA, are pushing for Hezbollah to be completely disarmed. A ceasefire has been in place since the end of November last year. However, Israel continues to attack Hezbollah targets almost daily. However, the attacks on Thursday were more extensive than usual.
