According to Israeli sources, the "finds" handed over from the Gaza Strip were not from a hostage. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that this was the result of forensic investigations. The relatives of two hostages who were killed and are still in the Gaza Strip have been informed.

The Islamist Hamas had announced on Tuesday that the remains were those of an Israeli hostage. Employees of the International Committee of the Red Cross had passed them on to the Israeli army. This is not the first case of this kind and earlier handovers of false hostage bodies had caused outrage in Israel. In addition to the mortal remains of an Israeli hostage, the body of a Thai man abducted from Israel is also said to be in the Gaza Strip.
