Israel has also made it clear that Hezbollah must be disarmed regardless of possible progress in economic cooperation, it added.
US embassy: meetings should achieve peace and prosperity
According to the US embassy in Lebanon, the meeting in Nakura, which is close to the border with Israel, was about achieving lasting peace and prosperity for both countries. For the first time, civilian representatives took part in talks aimed at stabilizing the agreement between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah.
Lebanon sent the former ambassador to the USA, Simon Karam. Uri Resnick from the Israeli National Security Council took part on behalf of Israel. The US special envoy for Lebanon, Morgan Ortagus, also took part in the meeting.
Lebanon and Israel are at war and have no official relations with each other. The USA is working hard to bring the two countries closer together.
A ceasefire has been in place between Israel and Hezbollah for a year. Both sides accuse each other of violating the agreement. Israel continues to attack almost daily. Efforts in Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah have not yet been successful.
